You Promised Me Forever

Cody was being so gentle tonight. His fingertips grazed Carrie’s body as if she were made of fine linen. Carrie relished his touch, enjoyed the feel of his hips between her legs; but wished he’d be more aggressive. “I’m not a porcelain doll,” she whispered in his ear before biting his ear lobe.

Cody gasped with pleasure, then bent to kiss her neck. “I want to feel your skin,” he said with his lips still pressed against her body. “While it’s still warm.”

“I’ll always be warm for you,” Carrie said through a moan that escaped her lips.

Cody lifted his head and looked into her eyes. “Will you always say such cheesy things in bed?”

“You love it,” Carrie said with a smile as she playfully batted Cody’s shoulder. She ran her fingertips over his lips. “You feel warm.”

“It’s a different kind of warm.”

“As long as it’s warmth for me.”

“It is.” Cody bent back down and kissed Carrie’s shoulder. “It always will be.”

“Forever.”

Cody glanced at her from the couch, then turned back to the TV. Whether or not he saw her angry glare, Carrie couldn’t say. He almost never seemed interested in looking at her longer than necessary. “What?” he asked.

“I almost fell and killed myself on the blood on the floor. Again.”

“You can’t get killed that way, you’re a vampire.”

“You know what I mean!”

Cody stayed silent. Carrie crossed her arms. “Can you at least clean it up?”

“Yeah.”

Carrie continued towards the fridge and looked inside. There were several cups of blood, enough that they wouldn’t need to hunt again for a couple weeks. She felt a gnawing disappointment—not at the abundance of food, but for not being able to do the one thing they seemed to actually want to do together lately.

Carrie remembered when they first met, when she was still human and didn’t know what Cody was beyond a handsome man. They danced in a bar, then fucked in her apartment. The only thing she noticed about him was that while his lips and his tongue ran all over her skin, he was careful not to bite her.

As they got to know each other, revealing more and more about their lives, Carrie noticed that while Cody always had
